Recurrent pregnancy loss — New York, NY
Recurrent pregnancy loss — usually defined as two or more losses — deserves a real workup: genetic (karyotyping both partners), anatomic, hormonal, and clotting/immune factors. About half the time no cause is found, which is painful to hear but carries genuinely good news: even after repeated losses and no identified cause, most patients go on to have a successful pregnancy.
Where IVF enters is specific: if either partner carries a chromosomal rearrangement, IVF with genetic testing of embryos (PGT) can select against the embryos most likely to miscarry. It is not a blanket fix for all recurrent loss.
